Shooter classics "Heretic" and "Hexen" appear in remaster versions
The classic fantasy shooters "Heretic" and "Hexen" are available as a re-release: The Steam bundle costs 15 euros.

Two classic fantasy shooters are getting new editions: Bethesda has released a bundle of “Heretic” and “Hexen” called “Heretic + Hexen,” which is available for all popular platforms, including the last-gen consoles Xbox One and Playstation 4. PC gamers can pick up the €15 package in the Xbox app, on Steam, and on GOG. Alternatively, both remastered versions of the shooters are available in the Game Pass.

Anyone who already owns the original DOS versions of both games will also receive a free upgrade in their library, which should already be available for download. The new features of the remakes, which have been implemented by Nightdive Studios, include engine fixes, mod support with in-game browser, support for quicksaves, and controller support. Nightdive Studios has developed remasters of “System Shock,” “Quake,” and “Doom,” among others.
More pixels and more FPS
Technically, the number of pixels in particular has been increased: on the current consoles, the two shooters now run at a maximum resolution of 4K and a maximum frame rate of 120 FPS on consoles. Depending on the configuration, even more is possible on the PC. The previous console generation at least manages FullHD with 60 FPS.
The bundle of “Heretic” and “Hexen” includes all additional content as well as a few new levels alongside the two main games. So that nostalgics don't necessarily have to start from the beginning, the campaigns of the games can be played through in any order in the re-release.

“Heretic” was released for DOS in 1994. The shooter was developed by Raven Software. The studio is known today as the developer of “Call of Duty” games and is owned by Microsoft via Activision. The Bethesda studio id Software was involved as publisher. The unofficial successor to “Heretic,” “Hexen”, was released a year later. Both shooters stand out from the competition thanks to their fantasy aesthetic.
