Since its launch in February 2025, "All on Board" has been focusing on a realistic implementation of classic board games in virtual reality. So far, popular titles such as "Rallyman GT", "Terraforming Mars", "The Binding of Isaac: Four Souls", "Istanbul" and classics such as chess and checkers have been added to the library. Now more well-known licensed titles follow.

With the 1.1 update, Spanish developer studio The Game Kitchen is expanding its VR board game platform with the paid add-on game "Aye, Dark Overlord!" and new social functions. The aim is to make the virtual board game experience on Meta Quest and SteamVR more personalized and accessible.

In "Aye, Dark Overlord!", board game fans slip into the role of subordinate villains who have to justify themselves to their sinister master with a lot of improvisation and absurd excuses. The focus is on spontaneous storytelling, role-playing and group dynamics. The multi-award-winning card game was first published in 2005 and has since built up a loyal fan base.

In addition to the new board game, version 1.1 also introduces a learning center to make it easier for players to get to grips with the complex rules of board games. Organizing game nights together will also be simplified: in future, sessions can be planned in advance via Discord and Telegram, including a matchmaking function for fellow players.

For the first time, The Game Kitchen has also published a roadmap with a detailed outlook for further content and system updates. A total of three new board games are set to be released by spring 2026. Already announced are "Hamlet: The Village Building Game" as further paid DLC in the fall and "Port Royale" in the winter. Several software updates and new free card decks are also set to follow.

"All on Board" is clearly aimed at board game enthusiasts. As with physical board games, the players themselves are responsible for following the rules. This clearly distinguishes the title from conventional digital board game adaptations. "We have built in a few automatisms that are logical to make the gaming experience more enjoyable. But for the most part, it remains a real board game experience, with everything that goes with it", Senior Producer Hicham Saoud Silva explains.

We have already sat down at the virtual board game table ourselves and can confirm that the feel of the game remains authentic at all times. The Game Kitchen has also implemented the templates with great attention to detail. No wonder, because studio boss Mauricio GarcĂa has fulfilled a project close to his heart with the VR board game simulator.

"Virtual reality is perfect for board games. You can create an immersive environment and play expansive board games in places with little space. Above all, you can play with friends who can't be there presently," enthuses GarcĂa.

"All on Board" is available for SteamVR and Meta Quest and costs 10 euros for the basic version. Add-ons are available from 6 euros. In multiplayer rounds, however, only the host needs to own the respective board game. Everyone else can play for free. We recommend the version for Meta Quest 3, as the board games can also be placed directly on the living room table in mixed reality mode.
