iPhone 17 Pro: entry-level model allegedly with 256 GB memory in future

Apple's next generation of iPhones could be somewhat less spoiled for choice when it comes to storage capacity. The smartphone manufacturer is reportedly planning to do away with the entry-level size of 128 GB for the iPhone 17 Pro. Unfortunately, this change comes at a price: the iPhones are set to become more expensive at the same time, according to various leakers citing unnamed sources.

The smartphone is set to start at 1049 US dollars for the basic configuration with 256 GB storage – 50 dollars more than the current iPhone 16 Pro with 128 GB. In Germany, prices will start at 1199 euros.

Entry-level variant to be discontinued

As confirmed by new leaks from China, Apple is reportedly planning to discontinue the entry-level version of the iPhone 17 Pro with 128 GB of storage. Customers will then only have the choice between 256 GB, 512 GB or 1 TB – instead of the previous four different storage options.

The Chinese leaker "Instant Digital" on Weibo thus substantiates earlier rumors that had already predicted a price increase of 50 dollars for the Pro models. However, the storage configurations had remained unclear until now.

Role model: iPhone 15 Pro Max

This approach is nothing new for Apple: the manufacturer had already raised the entry-level price of the iPhone 15 Pro Max from 1,099 to 1,199 dollars in 2023 and at the same time made 256 GB the new basic configuration. Now Apple appears to be applying this tactic to the iPhone 17 Pro two years later.
