In organizations that distribute Windows Updates via Windows Server Update Services (WSUS), the installation of the August security updates under Windows 11 24H2 may fail with an error message. Instead of successful completion, Windows then reports the error code 0x80240069. Microsoft is currently working on a solution.
Microsoft writes this in the Windows Release Health Notes. The error can occur when installing the security update KB5063878 via WSUS server. This is the update for Microsoft's August Patchday for Windows 11 24H2.
Temporary solution: Uninstall
Microsoft uses the “Known Issue Rollback” mechanism (KIR) to temporarily solve the problem. The company uses it on managed devices in corporate environments. For IT managers, Microsoft also provides group policies with which they can also achieve this in their organization. It is available for download as an .msi file for Windows 11 24H2. It includes a group policy with the name “Windows 11 24H2 and Windows Server 2025 KB5063878 250814_00551 Known Issue Rollback.”
Admins can find it in the group policies under “Computer Configuration”—“Administrative Templates.” Microsoft also provides instructions on how admins can use group policies to distribute a known issue rollback.

Another option Microsoft mentions is to install the August security updates manually via Windows Update or from the Windows Update catalog. The developers from Redmond are working on a solution to the problem, which will be distributed with a future Windows update. If this update is available, it will no longer be necessary to install and configure the above group policy, they add.
