AMD is discontinuing sales of the eight-core Ryzen 7 5700X3D processor. The model is already disappearing from the market: fewer and fewer stores are listing the processor, while the price is rising. The Ryzen 7 5700X3D reached its lowest level in summer 2024, with prices below 190 euros. It is now around 30 percent pricier, and the trend is rising.

The disappearance was first reported by Tweakers.net from the Netherlands. Several retailers there confirmed to the magazine that AMD was discontinuing sales. Sources from German retailers confirmed this to us.

The Ryzen 7 5700X3D is the last X3D processor still available with extra cache for the AM4 platform. The additional cache brings higher frame rates, especially in many games, because they benefit from low latencies. The higher-clocked Ryzen 7 5800X3D – AMD's very first X3D model – is no longer available. The six-core Ryzen 5 5600X3D never appeared in this country.

This is another nail in the coffin for the AM4 platform – 8.5 years after the launch of the first compatible CPU generation, Ryzen 1000. A Ryzen 7 5700X3D with 16 to 32 GB of DDR4 RAM and a B550 mainboard was long an affordable gaming-ready alternative to the more expensive AM5 platform. However, DDR4 memory has become considerably pricier in recent months.

This means that an AM4 substructure is most suitable if you choose one of the cheapest processors, such as the Ryzen 5 5600 (starting from 114 €) or Ryzen 7 5700 (starting from 147,89 €).

The cheapest AM5 processor is nominally the Ryzen 5 7400F (starting from 122,95 €), although this is only available as a tray version without a manufacturer's warranty. AMD actually only intends this model for complete PCs. The cheapest boxed AM5 CPU with a manufacturer's warranty is the Ryzen 5 7600 (starting from 158,90 €). The Ryzen 9000 are a good deal more expensive – they bring AMD a higher margin.
