At the beginning of August, Spotify announced that it would be raising prices in several countries. However, it was unclear in which countries the streaming service would implement price increases. Now it is clear: Germany is included.

Customers are currently being informed that their premium subscriptions will become pricier. The adjustments include all tariffs: the “Premium Individual” subscription will cost two euros more instead of 10.99 euros, meaning that customers will have to pay 12.99 euros a month in the future.

The “Duo” tariff for two people will cost 17.99 euros instead of the previous 14.99 euros. The “Family” subscription, which can be used by up to six people, will rise from 17.99 euros to 21.99 euros. Spotify is also adjusting its discounted student tariff, which will now cost 6.99 euros per month instead of 5.99 euros.

Despite the higher prices, the range of functions will not change: users can listen to ad-free music, use the offline mode, select free tracks, and enjoy “high audio quality,” although Spotify still does not support high-res audio. Another part of the offer for premium customers is access to the integrated audiobook catalog for 12 hours, but only for users of the main account.

In Germany, Spotify only recently introduced its new audiobook offer: With the additional option “Audiobooks+,” users can listen to an extra 15 hours per month. Together with the standard twelve hours, this results in 27 hours of listening time per month. The audiobook option costs an additional 9 euros per month.

According to Spotify, existing customers will be informed of the upcoming changes by email. Users who agree to the new conditions will be given a transition period. They will only have to pay the higher prices three months after agreeing. This means that the new prices will come into force for them on or after November 15, 2025. For new users in Germany and Austria, the increased prices will apply from August 14, 2025.

Spotify also reserves the right to cancel premium subscriptions if customers do not agree to the new prices in good time. The switch to the free, ad-financed service will take place after the notice period has expired. Spotify last increased its premium rates in Germany in October 2023.
