It should be common knowledge by now that the end of Windows 10 is approaching. Nevertheless, Microsoft reminds us that the time is 60 days away. But the Redmond company is also pulling the plug on Windows 11 versions.

Microsoft is now pointing this out in the Message Center of the Windows Release Health Notes. The first note naturally applies to Windows 10 22H2. The Home, Pro, Enterprise, Edu, and IoT Enterprise editions will reach their end of life on October 14, 2025. Windows 10 2015 LTSB and Windows 10 IoT Enterprise LTSB 2015 are also affected, the manufacturer adds. For the first time, however, private users can also participate in the Extended Security Updates (ESU) and thus delay the inevitable by 12 months. However, Microsoft prefers the recommended solution that those affected migrate to Windows 11.

But even here, there is actually only one version that can serve as a migration target, as the company is turning off the support tap for older builds. Microsoft points out that support for Windows 11 22H2 will also end in 60 days. The Enterprise, Edu, IoT Enterprise versions will then reach the end of service – the Windows 11 22H2 Home and Pro versions were already “due” a year ago.

Since the Home and Pro versions of Windows 11 only receive 24 months of support – see also the FAQ on the Windows product lifecycle from Microsoft –, the manufacturer has also issued a reminder 90 days before the end of Windows 11 23H2 for home users. The November Patchday security update will be the last one.

After October and November, respectively, the Windows versions mentioned will no longer receive function and security updates. You will then be unprotected against new threats and security vulnerabilities. Microsoft therefore recommends updating to Windows 11 24H2 –, which is currently the latest Windows 11 version. Windows 11 25H2 is currently being tested in the preview channels. The build is getting closer and closer to “release” in the Insider channels, which is expected this fall. However, Microsoft has not yet given an exact schedule for this.
