Business with desktop processors and semi-custom models for Playstation and Xbox consoles is currently booming at AMD. Market observer Mercury Research now estimates AMD's desktop market share at 32.2 percent – 9.2 percent more than a year ago. The figures refer to unit numbers and not sales.

The current Ryzen 9000 processors in particular are said to be selling well – and the high-margin X3D models with extra cache stand out. AMD therefore recently posted record sales of desktop CPUs.

After a partial run for consoles last year, deliveries rose again significantly in the second quarter of 2025. Mercury attributes this to overfilled warehouses last year, which have now been emptied again.

AMD's total x86 thus grows to 29.4 percent, although the company is weakening in the high-volume notebook market. The market observer attributes this to seasonal purchasing behavior: In the first half of the year, sales of business computers are usually better than those of consumer devices. Intel is traditionally stronger in the business market. AMD thus falls back to just over 20 percent mobile share.

Meanwhile, server sales are expected to stagnate if all categories from high-end to edge servers are included. AMD has a 27.3 percent share here, Intel a corresponding 72.7 percent. When comparing only large Xeon-SP models with large Epycs for traditional servers, AMD is now said to have a high 37.2 percent market share.

Mercury estimates that sales of ARM devices have recently been slightly lower than at the beginning of the year. Calculated against x86 processors, ARM CPUs are said to have a PC client market share of 13.2 percent. This includes Chromebooks and Apple's Macs as well as MacBooks with their own M processors.

The ARM server share is said to have fallen from 12 to 10.9 percent within three months. In particular, Nvidia's GB200 server boards with Grace CPUs and Blackwell accelerators are expected to drive up the ARM share of servers again in the future.
