Apple Watch: Real redesign not until next year?
The look of the Apple Watch has remained largely the same since its launch 10 years ago. Now there are new rumors about external changes – but only later.

Apple is expected to present new computer watches in a few weeks. Depending on the series, they are expected to bring significant improvements, with many users hoping for an Apple Watch Ultra 3 in particular. However, the basic design of the smartwatch models is not expected to change; at least there have been no rumors to date. However, according to reports from Taiwan, Apple is planning major redesigns for the Apple Watch in the coming year. A “major redesign” is planned, writes the Taipei-based electronics trade journal DigiTimes, citing Apple's supply chain. However, the medium has a mixed track record when it comes to Apple rumors, so the information should be taken with a grain of salt.
Changes to the exterior design of the Apple Watch
Basically, the look of the Apple Watch has changed very little since it was first released in 2015. Display shape, wristband connection, sensor technology—everything has been retained and/or minimally adapted. The resolution of the watch has been increased, the edges have become smaller, and different housing materials are visible from series to series. However, it was only with the Apple Watch Ultra from 2022 that a “real” new form factor was added—a device that is intended to be particularly durable. However, Apple has not implemented any possible plans to change the housing shape of the standard Apple Watch. This is now reportedly planned for next year. However, it is still unclear to what extent this will actually be the case.

DigiTimes writes that the Apple Watch for 2026—then probably Apple Watch Series 12—will have changes to the exterior design. These include modifications to the underside of the watch with the sensor areas. These are to be arranged in the form of eight different detectors “in a ring” and will be visible to users through a glass cover. This is reminiscent of an alleged prototype for the Apple Watch Series 10 that made the rounds in May. However, it is unclear whether the design corresponds to this look.
More space for sensors?
It is conceivable that Apple is preparing for the installation of new sensors with this change, such as the long-awaited blood pressure measurement. However, the report does not mention how else the look of the computer watch could be changed—particularly on the top –.
The Apple Watch Series 10 is the thinnest Apple Watch to date. However, an (even) thinner case, which Bloomberg had predicted, did not materialize, nor did a new magnetic clasp system for wristbands.
