Microsoft has made updated images of the test versions of Windows available in the Insider channels. They bring new functions for the click-to-do AI features and the snapshot tool, for example. The new features benefit the Dev and Beta channels.
The release notes for the preview of Windows 11 25H2 in the Developer channel first and foremost mention the introduction of new selection options for the click-to-do function. The selection can now be made as a free-form selection, as a rectangular selection, or by pressing “Ctrl” and clicking. The latter makes it possible to select multiple, even different content types that are to be included in further processing by the AI function. Microsoft is distributing further changes in stages. IT managers can use Group Policy or MSM CSP on Enterprise and Edu devices to remove software that has been pre-installed from the Microsoft Store. The programmers have refreshed the animation for displaying multiple window contents on mouse-over via grouped application icons in the taskbar. The Windows 11 preview versions also contain minor bug fixes and improvements, which are also described in the changelog for the Windows 11 24H2 version in the beta insider channel.
New version of the Snipping Tool
Microsoft is also delivering an updated Snipping Tool in the Canary and Dev Insider channels. The main new feature is the screen capture mode for application windows. The mode can be selected by clicking on the recording button with the camera symbol and selecting “Window” from the drop-down menu instead of the previously only option “Rectangle,” i.e., the selection of a rectangular screen area.

However, this works without tracking: once recording has started, the selected window area remains rigid. If the window is overlaid or moved, the recording area does not follow. However, the function is intended to provide an easy way to record what happens in a defined area without having to cut out or adjust areas later.
In the preview versions from mid-July, the programmers from Redmond added functions such as image descriptions using AI and new security features. Microsoft last updated the snipping tool in mid-April. The developers added more convenient text recognition to the screen snapshot tool.
