Xcode 26: Apple is apparently preparing native Claude integration

Apple's Xcode programming environment may receive native support for Anthropic's AI models. The Apple blog 9to5Mac claims to have found evidence of this in the next beta version of Xcode 26. Beta 7 is currently not yet available on the developer pages. According to the report, references to Claude Sonnet 4.0 and Claude Opus 4 are included in the code. This indicates that Claude could receive the same native integration as OpenAI's ChatGPT.

During the World Developer Conference WWDC, Apple announced that the company had "expanded" its vision for Swift Assist. The AI programming aid, which was originally only designed for Apple's own models, will now also natively support ChatGPT and provide access to other large language models via APIs. The traces found by 9to5Mac suggest that Claude should receive the same privileged integration as ChatGPT, instead of only being connected via the general API.

Apple's answer to GitHub Copilot

Swift Assist was originally announced at WWDC 2024 as Apple's answer to tools like GitHub Copilot. The AI-based programming aid was intended to help developers explore frameworks and write code but was never released. It was not until a year after its launch that Apple returned to it at WWDC 2025 and announced the expansion of its vision. In contrast to the previous year, this was also made available for testing with the beta versions.

In addition to the direct interfaces, Xcode users should also be able to integrate third-party models via API. Another alternative are local models that are operated on the Mac. This can prevent parts of your own code having to be transferred to the AI provider's servers.

Can Claude also answer for Siri?

The server configuration files discovered by 9to5Mac also indicate that Claude could possibly be integrated not only in Xcode, but also as an AI alternative to ChatGPT in Siri and in the system-wide writing tools. This has also been rumored several times before.
