Microids is releasing a revised version of the classic adventure game "Syberia", including a VR version for Meta Quest 3. A comparison with the original shows: The new edition focuses on careful modernization instead of radical reconstruction.
Kate Walker returns in November
On November 6, 2025, "Syberia Remastered" will be released for PC, Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. A week later, on November 13, a version for Meta Quest 3 will follow, as announced by French publisher Microids at this year's Gamescom. The new edition is being developed together with Virtuallyz Gaming and Microids Studio Paris. The remastered version uses modern animations, adapted controls and graphical improvements, but remains close to the original from 2002 in terms of content.
With the remaster, Microids aims to build on the success of the new edition of "Amerzone - The Explorer's Legacy" (starting from 37,20 €) and make other titles from its own catalog available again. The sales launch also includes a physical version, which will only be released in the United Kingdom (UK) for the time being. A first trailer shows a direct comparison of "Syberia" and "Syberia Remastered".

Hardly any details on the VR version
The story of Syberia follows Kate Walker, a US lawyer who travels to Europe on behalf of a company to take over a vending machine factory. Her assignment soon develops into a journey through a melancholy, fantastical world, characterized by steampunk technology, poetic motifs and the search for the mysterious Hans Voralberg. The series is known for its calm narrative style, profound themes such as identity and loss, and the interplay of fantastic automatons and realistic Eastern European settings. Belgian author Benoît Sokal, who passed away in 2021, significantly shaped the atmosphere of the series with his style.

The VR version is designed to allow players to immerse themselves more deeply in Sokal's world. How exactly the controls and interaction will be implemented in virtual reality remains to be seen. But one thing is clear: the narrative core remains untouched. This fits in with the basic line of the project, which, according to Microids, sees itself as a "respectful and ambitious new edition".
