Hasselblad has unveiled the X2D II 100C, the successor to the X2D 100C from 2022. The new camera looks almost the same, but features continuous autofocus (AF-C) for the first time. According to the manufacturer, the 100-megapixel sensor has been redesigned to enable 16-bit color depth and a true HDR mode (High Dynamic Range, HNCS HDR, HDR-HEIF, Ultra-HDR-JPG). However, this is deactivated in several shooting modes and set-ups such as bracketing and the display requires compatible devices and software. Accordingly, Hasselblad also claims to have improved the image processing in the camera, which should now allow more lifelike colors and more details in bright and dark areas of the image.

The revised autofocus now uses 425 phase detection fields instead of the previous 294. In addition, a LiDAR system supports focus detection. An AF auxiliary light is intended to improve focusing in low light. The AF-C requires XCD lenses with the latest firmware and does not work with an electronic shutter. The X2D II shoots series at up to three frames per second.

The five-axis image stabilization is said to compensate for up to ten f-stops instead of the previous five, which also allows longer freehand exposures – an extraordinary achievement at 100 megapixels, should this be confirmed in the test.

Compared to its predecessor, the X2D II 100C is slightly lighter (around 840 grams instead of the previous 895 grams), and the touchscreen is significantly brighter (up to 1400 cd/m² instead of 800 cd/m²), and it should be possible to tilt it further (90 degrees upwards, 43 degrees downwards). The viewfinder remains the same with a resolution of 5.76 million pixels. A 5-way joystick and eight freely assignable buttons round off the features. According to Hasselblad, the structure of the handle has also been revised.

The camera has an internal SSD with one terabyte of storage capacity and supports CFexpress type B cards.

Alongside the camera, Hasselblad presented the XCD 2.8–4/35–100E lens. It covers focal lengths from 35 to 100 millimeters (equivalent to 28–76 millimeters 35mm) and offers a continuous open aperture of f/2.8. With 16 lens elements in 13 groups, including three aspherical and five ED glass elements, it is said by the manufacturer to deliver a sharp-edged image. The lens weighs 894 grams. The shutter is said to synchronize flashes up to 1/4000 of a second.

Hasselblad is also launching three new filters (UV, ND8, CPL) for 86-millimeter threads. They fit the 35–100-millimeter zoom. The camera backpack called Vandra with a capacity of 20 liters for a body, two lenses, and accessories is also new.

The X2D II 100C and the XCD 2.8–4/35–100E zoom lens and accessories are available immediately. The camera body costs 7200 euros and the lens 4800 euros. The accessories are priced at 430 euros for the Vandra backpack, the filters are available for 260 euros (UV), 290 euros (ND8) and 470 euros (CPL).
