Microsoft provided the update preview versions for the first Windows builds on Wednesday night. Initially, users of Windows 11 23H3 and Windows 10 22H2 can access them – for Windows 10, this is the last update preview ever, Microsoft adds. The company also attaches particular importance to the delivery of Windows Backup for Organizations.
The preview for Windows 11 23H2 bears the knowledgebase number KB5064080 and increases the build to version 22621.5840. The individual corrections are rather small. Copilot has improved the reliability of the "Copilot key". The developers have updated the profiles for mobile providers. The removable disk policy did not block USB sticks correctly, for example. Access to SMB shares could be delayed if Quick UDP Internet Connections (QUIC) were used.
Microsoft explains that this is the "final" update preview for Windows 10 22H2. KB5063842 raises the version status to 19045.6282. Here, too, there are only minor corrections and a new licensing feature that allows users of the Windows 10 Keyless Commercial ESU solution (in addition to a Windows 365 subscription) to block outgoing network traffic. There are also updated profiles of mobile providers here. The removable disk access policy may not have worked correctly.
The two release announcements also list other minor fixes.
Relocation tool: Windows backup for organizations
Microsoft considers the delivery of Windows Backup for Organizations to be particularly important. The capabilities of the tool are based on what Microsoft has already mentioned in the context of the support extension for Windows 10 for home users. In the announcement of the general availability of the organizational backup software, the Redmond company writes that troubleshooting can be reduced as devices can be reset more easily. Settings and apps from the Microsoft Store can be restored quickly and with minimal effort. This also works for migrating from Windows 10 machines to Windows 11. This all benefits productivity.

Microsoft states as a prerequisite that the target devices must be linked to Microsoft Entra and that at least Windows 11 22H2 is running on them. The "Out-of-box experience" (OOBE) wizard has been prepared for this since the August 2025 security update. This should work since Windows 11 22H2 Build 22621.3958, Windows 11 23H2 Build 22631.3958 and Windows 11 24H2 Build 26100.1301 and newer. Another requirement is an Intune service admin or global admin access. This is an opt-in function, so IT managers must first activate it for the entire tenant. To restore specific user computers, the same Entra log-in must be used as when creating the backup.
Microsoft also points out that the Windows Secure Boot certificates will expire in June 2026. "This may affect the ability of certain personal and business devices to boot securely if they are not updated in time," the manufacturer explains and recommends updating the certificates in advance.
