Between shadows, drops and portraits: the pictures of the week
From quiet moments in the forest to detailed macro shots, this week's photos show the variety of ways in which mood and form can be staged.
A forest picture full of golden evening sun, a colorful drop of water, a Mediterranean evening atmosphere in Ascona and a portrait of a young woman: this week's pictures cover a wide range from natural tranquility to urban scenes and exciting details from nature and everyday life.
Light and shadow

This atmospheric forest picture skillfully captures the moment when the sun shines through the trees. The long shadows and warm golden tones create an attractive contrast. Gallery photographer Franz Buchegger reports: "The forest photographed is very close to our house and is an ideal recreational area for walking and relaxing. The idea behind this picture, which I took at the end of December last year, was to use the special light of the winter evening sun and the play of shadows on the trees in the forest to capture the special atmosphere of this moment."
The composition thrives on the interplay between the vertical tree trunks and the soft shimmer of the rays of light. The clear focus on the sunlight creates a fascinating balance of calm and dynamism.
Only 4 drops

A shimmering, red drop formation shoots out from the surface of the water. The liquid stretches out to the side like a fluttering cape and appears almost alive. Small splashes detach themselves and reinforce the dynamism of the moment. The light background beautifully exposes the filigree structure and lends depth to the entire scene.
Ascona - Bella Ticino

Ascona, situated on the shores of Lake Maggiore, is shown here in the magical twilight. The colorful facades of the houses on Piazza Motta with its cafés and restaurants glow in the warm light, while the lights are reflected in the still water. The church tower rises above the rooftops as a striking landmark, while a few boats rest in the harbor. In the background, the dark silhouettes of the mountains stand out, picturesquely framing the image of this Swiss gem.
Snipe dripping

A snipe stands still in the water, its elongated beak carrying a single drop. The plumage shows a complex pattern of brown, white and black, perfect as camouflage in its natural habitat. The smooth surface of the water enhances the calm effect of the scene and brings the filigree elegance of the bird to the fore.

This portrait of a young woman has a strong, immediate presence due to the direct eye contact with the camera. The soft light emphasizes her facial features and underlines her natural charisma. The dark, blurred background focuses entirely on the face. The loose hair and discreet golden earrings give the picture an authentic touch.
Under tension

Strong red dominates the entire picture and creates an intense, almost aggressive effect. A center with radiating struts provides a clear structure and visual tension. Lines and symmetry give this parasol a graphic appearance, almost like an architectural structure. The reduction to color and form makes the image modern, striking and very effective.

A sharp close-up shows a hornet in flight, heading directly towards the entrance of a wooden gap from which a second hornet is emerging. The impressive details of the wings, legs and the yellow and black patterned abdomen are razor sharp. The soft blurring in the background creates a successful cropping effect that draws the viewer's attention to the two insects. The perspective creates an exciting image that is equally fascinating for those interested in the natural sciences and the visual world.
