Fritz announces WLAN stick with Wi-Fi 7 and two new Fritzboxes
The Berlin-based manufacturer Fritz is announcing the Fritzbox 6690 Pro, Fritzbox 6825 4G and the Fritz WLAN stick 6700 at the IFA trade fair.

Fritz (formerly AVM) is preparing to launch two more Fritzboxes and a Wi-Fi stick. The Fritz 6700 Wi-Fi stick is Fritz's first wireless stick for USB-A connections since the AC 430 model from 2017 (starting from 29,99 €). The manufacturer is skipping Wi-Fi 6 and 6E: the 6700 stick supports Wi-Fi 7 in the 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz and 6 GHz bands, each with two MIMO streams. Fritz promises gross data rates of 2.88 Gbit/s each over the latter two bands. The stick is therefore not capable of operating with 320 MHz wide radio signals in the 6 GHz band. Fritz does not reveal whether it supports the Wi-Fi 7 function Multi-Link Operation (MLO), which is useful for more stable connections.
New top cable model
The Fritzbox 6690 Pro for cable connections (DOCSIS 3.1) is the first Fritz router to support Wi-Fi 7 on all three radio bands at 2.4, 5 and 6 GHz. The top model, Fritzbox 5690 Pro, however, falls back to Wi-Fi 6 in the 2.4 GHz network. The 6690 Pro can connect a Wi-Fi 7-capable client such as a notebook via MLO across all three bands simultaneously. This eliminates the short Internet dropouts when changing wireless bands.

At 6 and 2.4 GHz, however, Fritz is content with two MIMO streams each; only in the 5 GHz band are there four. Aggregated, the Fritzbox 6690 Pro should be able to send a good 12 Gbit/s gross wirelessly. Cable connections only run via one 2.5 Gigabit/s Ethernet and three 1 Gbit/s. Should a cable provider utilize DOCSIS 3.1 with up to 10 Gbit/s in the future, the Fritzbox 6690 Pro will not be able to take advantage of this speed, at least via Ethernet.
Common amenities such as the latest FritzOS, smart home options via Matter, Zigbee and DECT as well as two USB 3.2 Gen 1 (5 Gbit/s, formerly known as USB 3.0) are also on board.
The Fritzbox 6825 4G, also newly announced, is positioned by the manufacturer as an entry-level router for mobile connections via LTE. It makes do with a Gigabit Ethernet connection and a maximum wireless data rate of 300 Mbit/s via Wi-Fi 6. A welcome innovation: power is supplied via USB type C. This allows users to power the router with their cell phone charger, for example.

No prices for now
As usual, Fritz is not commenting on the prices and availability dates of the new devices. Traditionally, delivery dates can be several months in the future.
In addition to the new devices, Fritz is also bringing some previously announced Fritzboxes, repeaters and smart home devices to IFA, including the Fritzbox 5690 XGS, 5690, 7630, 4630, the Fritz Repeater 2700, 1700 and 1610 Outdoor and the Fritz Smart Energy 201. Fritz is also planning to launch the new Fritzfon M3 DECT cordless phone.
