The manageable range of 27-inch monitors with 5K resolution is growing. Acer and Philips are presenting corresponding models at the IFA trade fair: the Nitro XV270X for gamers and the Brilliance 27E3U7903 for professional users. The proximity of both announcements suggests new panels from a supplier – further monitor models could follow.

Acer and Philips use IPS panels that display, 5120 × 2880 pixels. At 27 inches, this results in a pixel density of 218 pixels per inch (ppi) – a third more than 4K displays (3840 × 2160 pixels) of the same size.

Both newcomers have a high contrast of 2000:1 by IPS standards. This suggests an offshoot from LG's "IPS Black" panel series or a similar technology. Acer runs its Nitro XV270X at 72 Hertz as standard, while Philips runs the Brilliance 27E3U7903 at 70.

Acer focuses on gamers. The Nitro XV270X has basic features such as HDMI 2.1, Displayport 1.4, dynamic refresh rates (VRR) via Freesync, 95% coverage of the DCI-P3 color space, a reasonable maximum brightness of 400 cd/m² and a response time of one millisecond. The stand is height-adjustable.

A mode that divides the resolution into quarters and doubles the refresh rate is not just a gimmick thanks to the high base resolution: users can switch the display to WQHD resolution with 2560 Ă— 1440 pixels and 144 hertz. Four pixels are then combined into one large one. Previous monitors with such a function had to make do with Full HD.

The Nitro XV270X will be the cheapest monitor with 5K resolution: Acer has set a recommended retail price of 699 euros at – a good 40 euros less than the cheapest model to date (starting from 681,55 €). However, delivery is not scheduled to start until the second quarter of 2026.

Philips intends the Brilliance 27E3U7903 for image and video editing. At 1159 euros, it costs significantly more than the Acer model, but also has some additional functions. What's more, those interested won't have to wait too long: delivery is set to begin this September.

It comes with two USB-C ports with a Thunderbolt 4 connection, including a power supply of up to 96 watts. Users can connect a notebook, for example, and charge it directly via the monitor. The integrated KVM switch allows users to quickly switch between different image sources.

The manufacturer promises almost complete coverage of the DCI-P3, Adobe RGB and sRGB color spaces. The maximum brightness is also higher here at 600 cd/m². Philips advertises with an anti-reflective tempered glass surface.

The Brilliance 27E3U7903 is Calman Ready, so it comes with Calman's Auto Calibration (AutoCal) calibration software package. However, users need their own colorimeter to evaluate the displayed colors.

An integrated 5 megapixel camera and a height-adjustable stand with pivot function round off the monitor's feature set.
