Despite a dull presentation at the IFA, one feature of the triple laser projector from Valerion is remarkable: the lens of the VisionMaster Max can be changed to provide even greater flexibility in the choice of installation location together with lens shift and optical zoom. The native projection ratio of 0.9 to 1.5:1 can be extended up to 2.0:1 using an attachment lens; this is sufficient for smaller rooms as well as for very large projection distances. The device raised over 10 million US dollars on Kickstarter.
The other key data is also impressive. The 4K projector with 3840 Ă— 2160 pixels is said to achieve a dynamic range of 50,000:1 via NoirScene. The system achieves the impressive contrast with a dynamic aperture, stray light protection and improved black level (Enhanced Black Level, EBL). As expected, this could not be verified at the brightly lit exhibition stand. Valerion states a maximum luminous flux of 3500 lumens.
We did not notice the dreaded rainbow effect of DLP projectors to any great extent. A later test will have to prove whether this was due to the anti-rainbow effect mentioned by the manufacturer.

Under the hood, the laser projector provides various streaming services thanks to Google TV, including Netflix, Prime Video and Disney+. The VisionMaster Max also supports the HDR formats Dolby Vision, HDR10+, HDR10, HLG and IMAX Enhanced as well as DTS:X Immersive Audio.

Valerion also believes its projector is well positioned in the gaming sector. With a low input lag of four milliseconds at 1080p and 240 hertz, even hardcore gamers should be satisfied. However, there was no mention of the projector being able to handle the Variable Refresh Rate (VRR), such as the new XGIMI projectors in the Horizon 20 series. We do not expect this to be the case.
The VisionMaster Max is now available to pre-order from dealers for around 5000 euros, including on the manufacturer's website.
