Sam Altman: Social media since AI bots feels fake
The OpenAI CEO is apparently wondering about the impact of AI on the internet and social networks in particular.

Twitter and Reddit feel fake, according to Sam Altman. Two years ago, this was not the case to the same extent. This is what the Twitter heavy user and Reddit shareholder writes on X. He backs up his feeling with a subreddit on Anthropic's Claude Coding Aid, which he believes was written by an AI bot. But that's only part of the problem.
Altman sees the reason for the flood of AI bots in the network effect, among other things. This means that the more people use a product, the greater its benefit. This would also place at least part of the blame on the operators. After all, their monetization programs make it possible to earn money with bots. However, the network effect already existed before AI bots.

Altman also believes that humans have adapted the language of large language models (LLMs). Without describing the connection with his feeling in more detail at this point, it can probably be concluded that he does not identify all posts that feel fake to him as being written by AI. The “pressure to optimize social platforms” apparently also contributes to a fake feeling. LinkedIn is currently often used as a prime example of many AI-generated social posts that are always structured according to the same pattern. Something that many people dislike but still participate in.
OpenAI plans its social network
In the Reddit post that Altman attached to his X post, people on the ClaudeCode subreddit are raving about OpenAI's code helper Codex. Because so many posts are about the switch to Codex, Altman wonders whether this can still be real. However, there have also been advertising campaigns in which external companies try to push OpenAI with such posts. In the USA, this is known as astroturf.
There are comments on Altman's post in which it is said that he is advertising his own social network. He is said to have already shown pictures of the prototype around. The focus is therefore on an image generator. The Sora video generator also has a recommendation feed that is reminiscent of social media. However, it is unclear how the network could keep bots away –
