Canon has unveiled the EOS C50, the smallest camera in its Cinema EOS series to date. It is a hybrid camera for photo and video and features the RF bayonet, but is primarily aimed at professional videographers and production teams. The full-frame sensor with 34 megapixels and the DIGIC DV7 image processor should enable internal raw video recording up to 7K at 60 fps and 4K at 120 fps.

While its sister model, the EOS R5 C, offers 8K resolution and 45 megapixels, the C50 focuses on a compact design, multi-camera productions and open-gate recording. The entire sensor is used. This should offer filmmakers more leeway in post-production. Anamorphic lenses benefit from the full sensor height, which should result in a cinema-like look. It should also be possible to simultaneously record a full image and a movable section in portrait or square format.

The Dual Pixel CMOS AF II is said to improve the detection and tracking of subjects, including people and animals, as well as the selection of the sharp eye.

Thanks to its modular design, the EOS C50 is said to be easy to mount in rigs. The detachable handle offers additional control options. Extensive connections and controls are designed to make working with audio and video easier. These include two XLR audio inputs and a zoom rocker. The C50 also has connections for timecode, HDMI and USB-C as well as two card slots that enable simultaneous recording of different formats. For live streams, the camera offers UVC/UAC support with up to 60 fps. The camera also supports RF lenses, while EF and PL lenses can still be used via an adapter.

Canon is also launching the hybrid RF 85mm F1.4L VCM lens with a classic portrait focal length of 85 millimetres. The large open aperture of f/1.4 ensures a soft background blur. The lens is therefore suitable for subject situations with low light, for example at indoor events or parties.

The optical construction combines UD and aspherical lens elements with Super Spectra and ASC coatings to optimize sharpness and contrast. The Voice Coil Motor (VCM) enables quiet and fast autofocus and is designed to minimize focus breathing, which is particularly relevant for videographers.

The RF 85mm F1.4L VCM weighs 636 grams and is just under ten centimetres long. As the latest member of the weather-sealed L-series, it has a fluorine coating on the front lens, which is designed to protect the lens from dust, splash water and dirt.

The eleven blades of the aperture are designed to ensure a soft bokeh. A manual aperture ring and a programmable function button allow quick adjustment to different shooting situations.

The Canon EOS C50 will be available from November 2025 for 3,800 euros. The RF 85mm F1.4 L VCM will be released on September 30, 2025 at a price of 1750 euros.

In addition to the new C50 cine camera, Canon has also announced a cine servo lens. The price alone indicates that this is a lens for professional TV and cinema productions: the CN5x11 IAS T R1/P1 costs 25,000 euros and will be available from November.

It is available with an RF or PL bayonet, a focal length of 11–55 millimeters and an angle of view of 100 degrees. This makes it particularly suitable for scenes with limited space, for example, in small film sets. The CN5x11 IAS T R1/P1 weighs around three kilograms and is said to be suitable for use on gimbals, camera cranes, shoulder rigs and the like due to its low weight. An integrated 1.5x extender extends the focal length range for Super 35 cameras and also enables use on full-frame cameras.

The lens is designed for shooting in 8K HDR and is intended to produce uniform image quality from the center to the edges. An aperture with eleven blades is intended to ensure soft light reflections and an appealing background blur.
