AirPods Pro 3 with live translation and heart rate monitor
The third generation comes with health sensors for the first time and uses AI to help with communication.

Apple has unveiled the third generation of its most popular in-ear headphones, the AirPods with ANC. The earbuds have better ANC, but also new smart functions.
Apple's design is based on its predecessors: the AirPods Pro 3 have a white plastic housing with a short bridge that houses the microphones. The earbuds are held in the ear with interchangeable attachments that seal the ear canal. The pads are now padded with foam and should stay in the ear better than before. The earpieces are protected against sweat, dust and splash water in accordance with IP57 protection class.
ANC and live translation
Although the AirPods Pro 3 continue to rely on the H2 chip introduced in 2022, Apple claims to have improved the Active Noise Cancelling even further. Compared to the AirPods Pro 2, the ANC is said to be twice as effective.
The AirPods Pro 3 now use Apple Intelligence and support live translation: the function is activated with a gesture. The live translation runs on the paired iPhone, and the transcript is also shown on its display.

The AirPods Pro 3 now feature optical heart rate monitors that can be used for workouts. These sensors detect the wearer's pulse via infrared (photoplethysmography). Apple subsidiary Beats already used this technology in the Powerbeats Pro 2 at the beginning of the year. The Apple Watch also uses a similar system.
According to Apple, the sensor of the AirPods Pro emits an infrared light invisible to the human eye 256 times per second to measure the light absorption of the blood flow. The heart rate can be called up in fitness apps, and the values are synchronized with the Health app. With AirPods Pro 3, subscribers to Apple's Fitness+ service can now see their readings directly on the display in real time.

Better battery life, same price
Apple claims to have increased the battery life compared to its predecessors; instead of 6 hours, the earbuds should now last 8 hours on a single charge. If you use the heart rate measurement during workouts, it is up to 6.5 hours. If you charge the AirPods Pro in the battery case in between, you can get up to 24 hours according to Apple. The battery case also has an eyelet for a strap. It has Apple's ultra-wideband chip U2, which allows precise searches at close range, similar to an AirTag.
Like their predecessors, the AirPods Pro 3 cost 249 US dollars. In Germany, they are available for 249 euros; the predecessors last cost 279 euros at Apple. The earbuds can be pre-ordered from Apple from September 9th and will go on sale on September 19th.
