With “Star Wars: Beyond Victory—A Mixed Reality Playset,” Industrial Light & Magic and Lucasfilm are releasing an interactive Star Wars experience developed exclusively for Meta Quest 3 and Quest 3S. In addition to narrative VR content and action-packed pod races, the special highlight for “Star Wars” fans is likely to be the sandbox environment with digital action figures that can be freely placed in their environment.
Digital playtime for “Star Wars” fans
The game is divided into three main areas: in Adventure mode, players experience a new story set in the time of the Galactic Empire. They follow the four-armed pilot Volo Bolus, who takes part in an intergalactic race under the guidance of the well-known podracer Sebulba. The story is set to combine immersive VR gameplay with mixed reality elements. The characters include the mechanic Sornah, the Aleena Deland Tyerell, and Grakkus the Hutt from Marvel's Star Wars comics. The voice cast includes Fin Argus, Lilimar Hernandez, and Bobby Moynihan, as well as Lewis MacLeod and Greg Proops, who reprise their roles from “Episode I—The Phantom Menace.”

In Arcade mode, the physical space is transformed into a holotically shaped arena. The pod racers familiar from “Star Wars: Episode I” are steered from a top-down view through a diorama racetrack, the course of which can be changed again and again. Finally, the playset mode offers “Star Wars” fans the opportunity to freely position, scale, and animate digital action figures such as Darth Vader or R2-D2 in space.
Movable joints are designed to make manual positioning more realistic. In addition to characters, it should also be possible to add props such as weapons or lightning effects. Many functions originate from ILM's internal tools, which were originally developed for the pre-visualization of film scenes. There will also be unlockable content via challenges in Adventure and Arcade mode.
“Star Wars: Beyond Victory” will be released on October 7, 2025, for Meta Quest. The game is released for ages 12 and up; the price has not yet been set.
