With the OM System M.Zuiko Digital ED 50-200mm F2.8 IS PRO, OM Digital Solutions is launching a super telephoto zoom lens onto the market. It is part of the supplier's Pro series and offers a constant speed of f/2.8. It also covers a focal length range that would be 100 to 400 millimeters for full-frame cameras. With a 2x teleconverter, this range is extended to up to 800 millimeters. The zoom lens is weatherproof to IP53 standard and is aimed at photographers who shoot wildlife, sports, or landscapes.
Technical specifications
The lens works together with the image stabilization in compatible OM housings. This means that up to seven exposure stops can be compensated (at 200 millimeters on the OM-1 Mark II, according to CIPA). The stabilization should not only help against blurred shots but also ensure a smoother viewfinder image. Continuous autofocus (AF-C) series are possible at up to 50 frames per second.
The optical construction consists of 21 lenses in 13 groups, including an EDA lens, two Super ED, and other ED, HR, and E-HR elements. The front lens is multi-coated (fluorine coating) to protect against water and dust and minimize flare and ghosting.
The internal zoom is said to have been configured in such a way that the center of gravity remains stable. Regardless of the focal length, the close focusing distance is 0.78 meters, which also makes telephoto macro shots attractive. The maximum magnification is 0.5x; a reproduction scale of 1:1 is also possible with the MC-20 teleconverter. Focus stacking in the camera is supported.

Housing and operation
The housing is supplied in a white finish to reduce heat buildup in the sun. Several control elements, such as a focus limiter, a switch for AF/MF, and a function for focus preselection, are designed to speed up work. The four freely assignable L-Fn buttons are also intended for this purpose; they can be accessed in both landscape and portrait format. The supplied lens hood has a window that can be used to rotate filters, such as polarizing or variable ND filters. The tripod clamp can be removed when the camera is attached; the base is Arca-Swiss compatible.
