Sapphire is once again selling motherboards for desktop PCs. It starts with five boards for AMD's current AM5 platform and one for older AM4 processors up to Ryzen 5000. The manufacturer is currently content with the entry and mid-range.

Sapphire is thus returning to the motherboard business after more than 12 years. The Pure Platinum Z77 from early 2013 was one of the last Sapphire models, back then for Intel's Core i-2000 (Sandy Bridge) and Core i-3000 (Ivy Bridge).

The Nitro+ B850A Wifi 7 is the most expensive model in the new six-pack with a recommended retail price of 189 euros and the only one in ATX format. It accommodates Ryzen processors from the 7000, 8000G/F and 9000 series. PCI Express 5.0 on the graphics card slot and an M.2 slot are also included. The wireless module supports Wi-Fi 7; 2.5 Gigabit/s is available via Ethernet.

There are savings in the USB ports: Sapphire makes do with four USB 3.2 Gen 2 (10 Gbit/s) and four USB 2.0. The manufacturer has dispensed with USB4. The Realtek ALC897 is also one of the cheaper sound chips.

B850 mainboards from other manufacturers with comparable features start at 180 euros. Micro-ATX models are slightly cheaper.

The Nitro+ B850M Wifi is largely a micro-ATX version of the Nitro+ B850A Wifi 7 with fewer PCIe slots. Sapphire only replaces the wireless module with one with Wi-Fi 6.

The Pulse B850M Wifi in Micro-ATX format is further slimmed down. For graphics cards there is only PCIe 4.0 – PCIe 5.0 remains on an M.2 slot. There are also fewer and slower USB ports. The maximum is 5 Gbit/s (USB 3.2 Gen 1, formerly known as USB 3.0).

The B650M-E has no WLAN module at all and only accommodates two instead of four memory slots. The board itself and the heat sinks are designed for a lower price.

The Pulse A620AM and A520M-E round off the range with recommended retail prices of 99 and 59 euros respectively. They are intended for low-cost PCs. The A520 model, for example, only has PCIe 3.0 and no cooler for the voltage converters.

The Micro-ATX mainboards are already available in German stores. The Nitro+ B850A Wifi 7 should follow soon.
