Cloudy prospects: Only cloud licenses left at Atlassian
Atlassian is discontinuing its data center products from December and will only offer services in the cloud in future. However, there are two exceptions.

The software provider Atlassian is discontinuing the sale of its data center products. These include the wiki software Confluence and the project management tool Jira. From March 2026, only cloud licenses will be available for new customers.
Atlassian justifies this step by stating that almost all new customers are now opting for the cloud. The switch to the cloud platform would also be accompanied by a significant improvement in teamwork. Atlassian already stopped selling server licenses for its products in 2021.
Cloud migration within three years
Atlassian is carrying out the cloud migration gradually over a period of three years. From December 16, 2025, the company will no longer accept new Marketplace apps for Data Center. On March 30, 2026, the sale of Data Center subscriptions and Marketplace apps for new customers will end. Existing customers can still purchase new licenses until 30 March 2028.

With two exceptions, all licenses will then expire on 28 March 2029. Bitbucket Data Center version control will continue to be available via a new hybrid license that gives customers access to both Bitbucket Data Center and Bitbucket Cloud. In addition, Atlassian will continue to offer extended maintenance for certain data center customers after March 28, 2029 to help them move to the cloud.

Various migration tools
The manufacturer is supporting the move to the cloud with its new Atlassian Acend program, which aims to make the transition as easy as possible for customers, for example through live webinars and individual support. Different cloud migration tools are available depending on the size of the company.
The provider refers customers with fewer than a thousand users to its self-service tools. For larger organizations, Atlassian offers the FastShift program. This is a free strategic partnership designed to drastically shorten cloud migration. For customers with more than 5,000 users, Atlassian provides the broadest support with the Solution Design Acceleration program, which is tailored to the company's business objectives.
Atlassian intends to further expand its cloud platform in the future, for example through a partnership with Google Cloud to develop a multi-cloud. The planned updates can be viewed in detail in the public roadmap.
