Core i5-110: Intel relaunches five-year-old processor

Intel is using its 100 processor series aka Series 1 for further new editions of old CPUs. Now new in the program: The secretly five-year-old Core i5-110 – including the "i" from the actually scrapped naming scheme. The processor corresponds one-to-one to the Core i5-10400, codenamed Comet Lake, with old 14-nanometer chip production.

The Core i5-110 uses six CPU cores with Hyper-Threading (12 threads), a maximum clock speed of 4.3 GHz and 12 MByte level 3 cache. The integrated UHD Graphics 630 graphics unit reaches 1.1 GHz and drives 4K monitors at 60 hertz. The memory support remains manageable: Intel releases the controller for 128 GB DDR4-2666 RAM. The thermal design power (TDP) remains at 65 watts.

Intel is also not giving the processor a new carrier – the Core i5-110 only runs with old LGA1200 mainboards (chipset series 400 and 500). Intel previously relaunched the Core i5-12400 (Alder Lake) as the Core 5 120 for LGA1700 mainboards.

High price on paper

The price of the Core i5-110 is also curious: as with the introduction of the Core i5-10400, Intel has given a recommended retail price of 200 US dollars. Including 19 percent VAT (not included in US prices), this corresponds to around 205 euros. The original Core i5-10400 (starting from 149,32 €) is still available at a significantly lower price. Even the current and faster Core Ultra 5 225 (starting from 168,89 €) does not cost 200 euros.

It is conceivable that Intel has launched the Core i5-110 at the request of a PC manufacturer. In this case, the recommended retail price given online would only be theoretical – In reality, Intel should sell the processors at a significantly lower price. However, such old reissues always have a flavor.
