Camera obscure: Digital Kodak for the key fob
The new Kodak Charmera costs 36 euros. The 30 gram digital camera also makes videos and is so tiny that it is not even noticeable on a key ring.

The tiny Kodak Charmera for the key ring costs 36 euros and weighs just 30 grams. The digital camera, which can also take video, comes in six variants, including a transparent one. However, buyers do not know which version they will receive.
If you manage to get hold of one of the coveted digi-cameras, you will buy it in a blind box that does not reveal which design pattern is inside. Although the shape of the housing is identical on all of them, each comes with a different print, including one that is reminiscent of the Kodak Fling that appeared in 1987.

The inner values
The inner values of the Charmera itself are identical for all devices and are no secret. Light is captured by a lens with a 35 mm equivalent focal length and a fixed aperture of f/2.4. The small 0.25 inch sensor has a resolution of 1440 × 1080 pixels; the cameras only save images in JPEG format. With its 1.6 megapixels, the sensor is no competition for current digital cameras. Even videos with 30 frames per second do not trigger an aha moment – the whole thing is more of a gimmick.
Videos and photos are stored on microSD cards with a capacity of up to 128 GB. The built-in 200 mAh battery charges via USB-C. While the Fling model only had an optical viewfinder, the Charmera uses a 0.8-inch display to show not only the subject but also the battery status and available memory.

Kodak no longer exists as a manufacturer: Alongside many other retro cameras, Reto Production Limited from Hong Kong also developed the Charmera and sells it as an official licensee under the Kodak brand.
Collectors can purchase a complete set. According to the manufacturer, such a set is guaranteed to contain six different designs. However, the seventh camera is still missing – if you can get one at all. The camera is currently no longer available on the manufacturer's website. It is also listed on other platforms such as Amazon & Co. but is not available.
Reto wants to provide information about further upcoming sales waves on Instagram. Interested parties will have to be patient or try their luck via relevant websites. The individual price is officially 30 US dollars, a box of 6 costs 180 US dollars. Reto charges 36 and 216 euros respectively via Amazon.
