AMD brings the eight Ryzen 5 5600
Six-core processors for the AM4 platform have taken a liking to AMD. New in the portfolio: the Ryzen 5 5600F with a fairly low clock rate.

AMD has added the six-core Ryzen 5 5600F processor to its CPU database. It is now the eighth 5600 model for AM4 mainboards – not even counting Pro and embedded models such as the Ryzen 5 5600GE. The F version is an entry-level model with the lowest clock frequencies of all 5600 Ryzens: AMD only guarantees a base clock of 3.0 GHz and a maximum boost of 4.0 GHz.
This means that the Ryzen 5 5600F undercuts the previously cheapest 5600 model, the Ryzen 5 5600 (starting from 112,90 €), by around ten percent. Accordingly, the newcomer should be even cheaper on the market and cost less than 80 euros.

Chiplet utilization
Normally, the F suffix stands for a missing integrated graphics unit for both AMD and Intel. However, in the case of the AM4 platform, only very few processors have a GPU anyway. The only difference to the Ryzen 5 5600 is therefore the clock frequency. AMD can use compute chips in the F model, which do not achieve high clock frequencies with a thermal design power (TDP) of 65 watts.

The G-types Ryzen 5 5600G and the slightly accelerated Ryzen 5 5600GT variant have a graphics unit. However, because these are derived from the mobile chip codenamed Cezanne, their level 3 cache is only half the size of the GPU-less processors. This impairs CPU performance in latency-critical games and applications.
The Ryzen 5 5600F is not yet available in German stores. As soon as it is available, it could be worthwhile for budget PCs if it is around 60 euros and DDR4 memory is available at a reasonable price. However, the prices for DDR4 kits are set to rise further in the coming months – so the window of opportunity for attractive systems is small.
