It is now the classic among AI glasses: Meta's Ray-Ban is now appearing in an improved, clearly, second generation. There are now 27 frames to choose from, all relatively inconspicuous in the typical Ray-Ban style. There are also various options for lenses – from clear to transition. These are lenses that darken when exposed to sunlight.
The new RBM models extend the battery life of the glasses to up to eight hours. If you listen to music or talk on the phone continuously, it is five hours. A further 48 hours can be obtained from the charging case.
Of course, the glasses can still be controlled via Meta AI and have the full range of functions of the older generation. For example, you can take videos or photos by tapping on the temples or using voice commands. The new models have a built-in 12-megapixel wide-angle camera – with improved 3K UltraHD resolution. Portraits are taken at 3024 x 4032 pixels as standard. Videos can be recorded in various sizes with a length of up to three minutes.
Real-time translator via AI glasses
Five microphones are built in so that Meta can listen closely. Two outputs ensure that even music and conversation partners are clearly understood.

Meta AI can now also see its surroundings via cameras and, if information is available, can also provide it. "Hey Meta, what's that sign over there?" Meta usually knows the answer. And foreign languages are no problem either. Real-time translation is possible with the glasses. However, this is not yet available in all languages. We have already been able to test French and English. Conversations are easy to conduct with very short latency. Meta AI translates very closely to the spoken word, so it does not provide an interpreting service like the translator in Google Meet, which also wants to understand the meaning and adapts sentences accordingly.
Mark Zuckerberg presented the real-time translator at the company's own Connect trade fair last year and it is now actually available. This function will also be made available for the old MRB.
Gen 2 of the RBM can withstand splashing water. However, unlike the new Oakley Vanguard, it should not be completely submerged in water.
Transparency note: The author was invited in advance to test the new generation of Ray-Ban Meta-Glasses. There were no reporting requirements.
