Nintendo and Pocketpair are no longer friends: the Japanese studio has announced "Palworld: Palfarm", a farm game in the style of "Animal Crossing".

Following the success of the survival game “Palword,” developer Pocketpair wants to expand the brand. With “Palworld: Palfarm,” a first spin-off has been announced that seems most reminiscent of the “Animal Crossing” series in terms of gameplay. Together with Pals, players will build and manage a farm before the goods are sold in shops.

During the game, you can build up relationships with your Pals and other islanders, writes Pocketpair on the “Palfarm” Steam page. Things are not completely peaceful: your farms are the target of malicious Pal monsters from which you have to protect yourself. Other game features include four alternating seasons and a multiplayer mode.
The best-known role model is obviously “Animal Crossing” from Nintendo, but the cozy farm game principle has long been implemented by countless competitors. The idea for “Palfarm” came from the community, writes Pocketpair in the announcement of the game. Many players wanted more relaxed adventures with their Pals.
No impact on “Palworld” development
“Palworld: Palfarm” is being developed by a new team, the studio writes. The development of “Palworld” should therefore not be affected. After all, the game is still in the early access phase. The survival game with pocket monsters that are reminiscent of Nintendo's classic “Pokémon” pocket monsters, both conceptually and in their individual designs, was launched in early 2024 and quickly became one of the biggest surprise hits of the year. At its peak, “Palworld” was played by over 2 million players simultaneously.

“Palworld” is a thorn in Nintendo's side: a year ago, the console manufacturer sued Pocketpair. Nintendo is demanding an injunction and damages because “Palworld” infringes several patents. Nintendo only filed some of these patents in recent years.
