Beta users have been able to try it out for a few months, and now the new design of the Steam shop is available to all users. Among other things, it combines the left-hand column and the blue menu bar into a standardized menu at the top of the screen, which means that the most important navigation options are bundled together more compactly. According to Valve, the aim was to make it easier to browse the shop and discover new games. The new store is available on the desktop, but also in the mobile app and on the Steam Deck.

The previous layout of the Steam shop had caused confusion for some users, Valve wrote in the original announcement of the redesign. The new layout was created following feedback from the community. It's not just the homepage that has been revised; subpages of the shop have also been reorganized. The menu and search bar are now to be found on more pages in the shop. To take up less space, the menu bar is usually hidden, but if you scroll up briefly, it appears.

According to Valve, the search function has also been revised. It can now search not only for games but also for developers, categories, and keywords. An extended search function with filters such as languages, genre, and price is also available. Past searches appear under the “Recently viewed” tab when you click on the search field. This means you don't always have to retype your search terms. In addition, the search function now includes “popular searches,” i.e., shows what others are currently looking for.

Users have been able to try out the new store design as a beta since July. If you want to use new Steam features earlier in the future, you can simply sign up for them: in the options under “Interface,” all you have to do is click on the “Client beta participation” drop-down menu. Finally, select “Steam beta update” and restart the client.
