After PC problems: Gearbox postpones Switch 2 version of "Borderlands 4"

2K and Gearbox have surprisingly postponed the Switch 2 release of "Borderlands 4." The official X-account of the shooter informs about this. According to the developers, the development and fine-tuning of the Switch 2 port is taking additional time. The post does not yet include a new release date.

“We didn't make this decision lightly,” writes Gearbox on X. The step was necessary to offer fans the “best possible experience.” To achieve this, “Borderlands 4” for the Switch 2 needs additional development time. It is also hoped that the cross-save function can be offered for the new release date. This is a feature that allows users to switch between different platforms and still continue playing the same game.

Digital pre-orders of “Borderlands 4” on the Switch 2 will be automatically cancelled, Gearbox explains. However, customers can also initiate this step themselves if they wish before the automatic system takes effect on 26 September. Anyone who has pre-ordered the data carrier version should contact the respective retailer.

PC version also has problems

The postponement of the Switch 2 version of “Borderlands 4” follows heavy criticism of the PC version: “Borderlands 4” suffers from stuttering, crashes, and generally poor performance on the PC. Gearbox has now released patches that at least provide some improvement. If you are still experiencing stutters, you can try increasing the shader cache created by the graphics card.

Criticism of the PC version of “Borderlands 4” has brought chief developer Randy Pitchford onto the scene, who has engaged in a number of verbal battles with angry fans on X. “Every PC gamer has to accept the reality of the relationship between their hardware and the software they use,” Pitchford wrote, among other things. “Borderlands 4” is a “premium game for premium gamers.”
