Insomniac Games is following up “Spider-Man” with “Wolverine.” The Sony studio has released a first gameplay trailer for its new superhero game. Even if Wolverine himself would disagree: in the one-and-a-half-minute clip, he explicitly describes himself as “not a hero.”

Insomniac emphasizes the anti-hero atmosphere in the trailer with a decidedly high level of violence: Wolverine cuts off his opponents' arms and punctures their faces with his adamantium claws. This brutality is borrowed from the comic book originals, explains Creative Director Marcus Smith in an accompanying video.
The character Wolverine is played and voiced by Australian actor Liam McIntyre. In the course of the game, he will be transported to the Canadian wilderness, the fictional island of Madripoor and Japan, among other places. In contrast to Insomniac's previous “Spider-Man” games, “Wolverine” will apparently not take place in a shared, open-game world but will offer a somewhat more linear gameplay. Several other well-known characters from the Marvel cosmos also make an appearance in the trailer for “Wolverine,” including Omega Red and Mystique.

“Wolverine” was announced in 2021, but only a short teaser trailer without gameplay scenes was shown at the time. Developer Insomniac fell victim to a ransomware attack in 2023, during which the first gameplay clips from the upcoming action game were leaked to the public.
'Wolverine' is due to be released for Playstation 5 in autumn 2026. Wolverine has not yet been announced for other platforms, but a PC version could be released at a later date.
