Housemarque announces Roguelite game "Saros"
With "Saros", Housemarque wants to continue the success story that "Returnal" started. Both titles are obviously very similar in terms of gameplay.

“Saros” picks up where “Returnal” left off: Studio Housemarque has announced its new game. It will once again be an action game from a third-person perspective set on an alien planet. Like “Returnal,” “Saros” has rogue-like elements: if a game run goes wrong, you can simply start again from the beginning—and it will probably take several attempts before you reach the end. Regular failure is priced in.

“Saros” is due to be released for Playstation 5 in 2026, but there is no exact release date yet. A PC version has not yet been announced, but like its predecessor, “Saros” could come to computers with a slight delay. “Returnal” was ported to the PC at the beginning of 2024. It usually takes around one to two years for PlayStation games to find their way onto the PC.
The new game from Housemarque is set on a planet called Carcosa, which changes every time the character Arjun Devraj dies. Compared to “Returnal,” “Saros” is said to offer more permanent progress between the individual game runs. The first trailer shows, among other things, how Devraj gets a second chance after his first death—an unlockable bonus that applies to all future runs.
“Returnal” convinced Sony to buy it
Housemarque is a Finnish company based in Helsinki. The team's big breakthrough came with “Returnal,” which was launched exclusively for Playstation in 2021. Before that, Housemarque had already brought seven titles exclusively to the Sony console.

A few months after the release of “Returnal,” Sony decided to consolidate the long-standing partnership and buy Housemarque. The sum for the takeover was not disclosed. “Saros” is the first title from Housemarque since the team became part of Sony.
