"Deus Ex Remastered": Sci-fi classic returns with modernised graphics
Aspyr is bringing back the cyberpunk classic "Deus Ex" 25 years after its release with modernised graphics and adapted controls.

A quarter of a century after the original, Aspyr and Eidos Montréal are bringing the first installment of “Deus Ex” to PC and consoles as a revised remaster. Revised technology, an adapted interface, and new gamepad controls are intended to make the dystopian game world from the year 2000 more accessible.
Visual overhaul instead of a radical reorientation
The new edition will be closely modeled on the original. According to Aspyr, a conscious effort was made to preserve the DNA of the original and not to change the plot, multiple solutions and narrative freedom of choice. At the same time, all game environments have been visually reworked with dynamic lighting, improved shadow effects, particle systems, and upscaled textures.

The developer has also redesigned the character models and now offers lip-synced dialogue and ragdoll physics when defeating enemies for the first time. As in the original, the locations range from New York to Hong Kong to Paris and Area 51, embedded in a scenario in which epidemics, surveillance, and secret organizations determine the global power structure.
Controls fundamentally rethought
A central problem of previous console ports was the complex control system originally designed for mouse and keyboard. For the remastered version, Aspyr developed a completely revised controller navigation system, inspired by later games such as “Human Revolution” and “Mankind Divided”.
This includes radial menus, simplified weapon management, and an adapted traversal system that, according to the developer, should make “every augmentation feel natural in your hands.” The aim is to retain the depth of the original but to make it easier to access, especially for a new generation of players.

The remaster is a collaboration between Aspyr and Eidos Montréal. Both studios emphasize that this is not just a technical update but a “preservation project” for one of the defining games of the immersive sim genre. “Deus Ex Remastered” is not the first collaboration between the two studios. Most recently, they jointly realized the new editions of the classics “Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 1 & 2 Remastered” and the two remaster collections of the first six “Tomb Raider” parts.
