Our selection of images this week unfolds very different perspectives on architecture, nature, wildlife and sport. Each photo tells its own story, be it through urban plays of light, the majestic aura of a lion, tranquil landscapes in the morning mist, or the powerful presence of an athlete. Complemented by atmospheric architectural shots and a view of the night sky, the result is a diverse collection that combines technical precision with artistic expressiveness.

Lotte World Tower Seoul

This night image captures the urban elegance of Seoul. In the center rises the strikingly illuminated Lotte World Tower, flanked by a dense skyline of modern skyscrapers. The curved road in the foreground draws the eye towards the city with long trails of light. On the right-hand side, the colorfully illuminated bridge construction sets a visual accent. The reflections in the Han River emphasize the depth of the composition and lend the scene additional dynamism. All in all, a technically precise shot with strong image dramaturgy through architectural accents.

Portraits

A majestic portrait of a lion, captured in the light of the setting sun. Its golden-brown mane stands out against the dark, blurred background and gives the motif a dramatic appearance. The fine details captured by gallery photographer Pham Nuwem, such as the scars on the face and the texture of the fur, hint at a fighting life and make the image authentic.

Klaus-Peter Kubik 's shot at Bundeskanzlerplatz in Bonn uses a striking central and lower perspective that draws the eye upwards and makes the architecture appear monumental. "The mirror installation by Jeppe Hein, which invites you to try out different perspectives, is particularly appealing at this location. Here, I chose a position almost close to the ground to achieve the desired effect," explains the photographer.

The black and white image emphasises the shapes, lines and structures, turning the sky into a neutral stage for the geometry of the buildings. The vertical elements add dynamism and depth, and it almost looks as if they are jutting into the sky. The symmetry is also striking, which is broken up by slight angular shifts and thus creates tension.

Gentle silence over the lake

(Image: M. Rasch)

At Hintersee in Berchtesgadener Land, the morning mist settles over the scenery and lends M. Rasch 's photograph a moody, mystical atmosphere. In the foreground, rocks and small islands with scattered trees protrude from the clear water. The reflections in the lake emphasise the calm mood and create a beautiful depth in the picture. Behind them, the rugged mountain peaks rise up, partly shrouded in clouds, which adds to the drama.

Flylite

Ice hockey player Justin MacPherson from EC Bad Nauheim is portrayed here in an exciting black and white aesthetic during a game. His gaze is concentrated and thoughtful, while the blurred background creates a strong sense of depth. The framing puts the player at the center and emphasizes certain details, while the light in particular highlights his face. The shot conveys both the emotional side of the sport and the intensity of the moment.

Gallery photographer Florian Dehn reports on his shot: "The light was sufficient for standard focal lengths such as a 70–200 mm f2.8, but this is precisely where I like the Nikkor 200 mm f2.0 for its incredible sharpness, the very shallow depth of field, and the sharp contrasts, especially in black and white. I have processed almost nothing – I only adjusted the tone curve and the mix in black and white."

Saxon State Chancellery

(Image: Stephan Gläser)

The Saxon State Chancellery with its impressive façade and striking central tower on the banks of the Elbe rises in the golden evening light. The architecture of dark sandstone and red roofs conveys historical significance. In the foreground, the Carola Bridge (before its partial collapse) provides an interesting contrast to the traditional architecture. Softly coloured clouds and the warm light lend the scene a picturesque atmosphere.

The moon on 03.09.2025

This moon shot fascinates with the intense golden color of the almost full moon. Its surface is captured in razor-sharp detail so that craters and structures are clearly recognizable. The warm color filter gives the astronomical motif a particularly atmospheric effect. The night sky intensifies the contrasts and draws the eye exclusively to the striking details of the Earth's satellite. All in all, it is an impressive shot that is both technically precise and aesthetically effective. Photographer Elena Shtrakova explains: "The idea came about as part of a series of observations of the moon from 3 to 15 September 2025. The aim was to capture the changes in the visible surface and the special atmosphere in the various phases."
