Amazon announced new "Kindle Scribe" models on Tuesday, which are intended for productive use. In addition to a conventional Kindle Scribe with and without a front light, the "Kindle Scribe Colorsoft" is Amazon's first pen tablet equipped with a color e-ink display. Amazon had previously announced that Kindle sales in general had risen sharply in the recent past. 60 per cent of buyers had purchased a Kindle for the first time.

The "Kindle Scribe Colorsoft" follows the design of the Kindle Scribe, but uses a special "Colorsoft display technology" according to Amazon. According to the manufacturer, it has a colour filter and light guide with nitride LEDs, which optimises the colours without washing out details. A new rendering engine is also used to improve the colour display and enable faster, smoother and more natural writing.
According to Amazon, the Kindle Scribe Colorsoft offers a battery life of weeks and "no distracting apps or notifications". The model costs 649.99 euros and, according to Amazon (like all new models), comes with a premium stylus.
The standard Kindle Scribe has also been further developed. It is 5.4 mm thin, 400 g light and, according to Amazon, 40 per cent faster than its predecessor thanks to the new quad-core chip, which "makes writing and turning pages appear even smoother". Writing on the larger 11-inch display without mirror effects should feel like writing on paper. Thanks to a redesigned display unit, parallax is practically imperceptible.

The new Kindle Scribe portfolio offers new functions designed to boost productivity and creativity. The revised home screen now shows recently opened or added books, documents, and notebooks. Thoughts can be captured with quick notes. With support for Google Drive and Microsoft OneDrive, it is also easier to import documents and export annotated PDFs. Users can also export their notes as converted text or embedded images to OneNote to keep all their notes in one place and edit them further on their laptop.

Everything with AI
AI is not missing either: it should be possible to search for an entry in all your notebooks using natural language. Simple AI summaries are also possible. According to Amazon, a follow-up question is all you need to delve deeper.
Ten pen colours are available for writing, drawing and annotating and five highlighter colours for highlighting. A new shading tool enables subtle transitions and overlays. Finally, documents, notebooks, books and more can now be organised in the same folder.
The Kindle Scribe costs 519.99 Euro with front light and 449.99 Euro without. Amazon has not yet announced a release date, but interested parties can be notified when the devices are available for pre-order.
