Ten months after the first signs of life of the UltraFine evo 6K monitor with the model number 32U990A-S, the South Korean manufacturer LG has published all the information, including a price. According to the manufacturer, the 31.5-inch screen is primarily intended for "creative professionals with demanding workflows".

The monitor presented at the CES in January offers an even higher resolution of 6144 × 3456 pixels than the Ultrafine 5K models previously offered by LG. Currently, only Dell's UltraSharp U3224KBA offers this resolution. The pixel density increases to 224 pixels per inch (ppi) – 60 per cent more than 4K models of the same size (3840 × 2160 pixels). LG uses its own Nano IPS Black panel, which achieves darker black levels and therefore higher contrasts than classic IPS panels. LG puts the colour space coverage with 10-bit gradation per colour channel at 99.5 percent Adobe RGB and 98 percent DCI-P3. The manufacturer calibrates the display ex works.

That's how much extra screen space users have thanks to the 6K resolution.

The backlight achieves 450 cd/m² over a longer period of time. Up to 600 cd/m² is possible in the short term, which means the monitor fulfils the requirements for VESA DisplayHDR 600. The stand is height-adjustable and the display can also be rotated by 90 degrees (pivot).

The screen is less suitable as a gaming monitor due to its refresh rate of 60 hertz. LG makes it clear in its announcement that it is primarily suitable for graphics and video editing. According to LG, the monitor is also suitable for Mac devices thanks to a studio mode with three preset colour options.

On the connection side, the UltraFine evo 32U990A comes with two Thunderbolt 5 ports (including Displayport 2.1 and one 96-watt charging port), HDMI 2.1, Displayport 2.1 and three USB 3.2 Gen 2 (10 Gbit/s) ports. One of the two Thunderbolt ports and two USB ports serve as a hub: users can use Thunderbolt to connect an additional display (daisy chain) or an eGPU or SSD, for example, while the normal USB ports can be used to connect peripherals or an Ethernet adapter. If you don't have Thunderbolt or the closely related USB4, you can use the third USB-C port as an upstream for the USB hub. An integrated KVM switch allows you to switch between image sources with the same connected peripherals.

The L-shaped stand allows the monitor to be tilted and adjusted in height. The display can also be rotated by 90 degrees (pivot), for example, to edit long tables or watch or edit YouTube shorts. Alternatively, the monitor can also be attached to third-party stands and monitor arms using a VESA mount (100 Ă— 100 mm).

The LG Ultrafine 6K display offers various ergonomic customisation options.

While the monitor is already available in some countries, it is due to go on sale in Germany towards the end of October. With a recommended retail price of 2000 Euro, it is cheaper than Dell's UltraSharp U3224KBA, which started with an RRP of around 2900 Euro, but is now available for around 2200 Euro.
