VPS Next: Smart glasses with eye tracking for demanding fields of application
The Viennese company Viewpointsystem presents "VPS Next", the third generation of its professional eye-tracking glasses.
VPS Next are robust smart glasses for remote maintenance and related application scenarios.

VPS Next is equipped with a camera that transmits a live video from the wearer's perspective to smartphones, laptops or tablets. At the same time, eye tracking shows what the user is looking at in real time. This makes attention visible and can be analysed regardless of location, for example during remote maintenance, training, defence or sport. Experts can join in live, communicate with the wearer via audio and video, and draw notes or markings directly in the stream. VPS Next has no built-in display.

The camera delivers videos in HD+, photos in 4K and a field of view of 112 degrees. The patented eye-tracking system has been further developed so that it works reliably even under difficult conditions. It updates at 120 frames per second, calibrates itself automatically and remains precise even if the goggles move or slip slightly. The goggles are dust and splash-proof to IP54.
From the factory floor to railway operations: successful practical applications
VPS Next comes in three configurations: from certified safety spectacles in accordance with EN166 to rimless and lensless models for unobstructed vision. In its lightest configuration, VPS Next weighs 38 grams.
A 95 gram, wired computing unit provides processing power and connectivity (Wi-Fi, mobile data, Bluetooth). It can be carried in a pocket or attached to a helmet, arm or belt. All data is transmitted in encrypted form and only stored locally. The glasses are operated via a multi-mode button on the frame, which can be used to take screenshots, start recordings and set markers. The battery lasts for 3 hours.

The smart glasses are already being used profitably. According to the Austrian Federal Railways (Ă–BB), they have reduced unauthorised signal crossings in shunting operations by 44 percent. In addition, the glasses are being used to practise "inspection vision" during wagon inspections at around 60 Ă–BB locations. An international brewery group uses the glasses for remote support during maintenance work, while manufacturing companies and sports teams use the glasses for process optimisation and visual coaching. Other customers of VPS Smart Glasses include Toyota, Denso and Deutsche Bahn. In the defence sector, the Austrian Armed Forces, the Canadian Armed Forces and the defence forces of other NATO partners are among those training with the glasses.
VPS Next is available from 4,320 Euro, depending on the software package and configuration.
