Open Source: New React Foundation under the umbrella of the Linux Foundation
The Linux Foundation has announced the new React Foundation, which will be responsible for React and related projects.

The JavaScript library React will move to the React Foundation, a new foundation under the umbrella of the Linux Foundation. React was once developed by Meta, made open source 12 years ago, and has now been handed over to the new foundation. It will provide a neutral home for React, React Native, and supporting projects such as JSX and ensure that React remains open and community-led.

The Call for Proposals for enterJS 2026 on 16 and 17 June in Mannheim has started. The organisers are looking for presentations and workshops on JavaScript and TypeScript, frameworks, tools and libraries, security, UX and more until 12 November. Practical reports are also welcome. Structure and tasks of the React Foundation
According to the Linux Foundation's announcement, the React Foundation represents a milestone for open source front-end development. And the OpenJS Foundation – which Meta joined as a Gold Member in 2023 – believes the React Foundation is not only a win for React but also for JavaScript, open collaboration, and the open web.
The Foundation will be governed by a Board of Directors, with Seth Webster (Head of React at Meta) as Executive Director. This will allocate funding and resources for React's development, community, and ecosystem. The chosen structure is suitable for ensuring the vendor neutrality of the Foundation and representing the interests of the community, according to Webster and others on the React blog.

In addition to Meta, Amazon, Callstack, Expo, Microsoft, Software Mansion, and Vercel are also among the founding members of the React Foundation.
The Foundation will take on various tasks: it will take care of the React infrastructure, organize the React Conf conference, and create initiatives to support the React ecosystem, for example by providing financial support for projects.
Technical governance will be outsourced
A new technical governance structure is to be created independently of the React Foundation and will be responsible for the technical direction of React. Those responsible want to obtain community feedback for this, with details to follow.
