Thin smartphones are obviously in vogue: after Samsung and Apple, Motorola now wants to jump on the bandwagon, but is not skimping on the battery.

Motorola plans to unveil its Moto Edge 70 on 5 November. Similar to the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge and Apple's iPhone Air, the upcoming smartphone is set to be particularly slim. Unlike the competition, however, the manufacturer does not appear to want to sacrifice a solid battery life.

The Edge family from Motorola will soon have a new addition. The smartphone – the leaker Evleaks has unearthed the name along with the first images –, apparently named Moto Edge 70 (in China it could be called Moto X70 Air) for the global market, is expected to be less than 6 mm thin and, like the last Edge models, will apparently appear in Motorola's popular Pantone colours.

Aside from the leaks, Motorola has already revealed the first details about its ultra-slim smartphone on its Polish website: Despite its thin design, the device is said to have a 4800 mAh battery on board. To ensure that this capacity fits into the thin housing, the manufacturer is relying on silicon-carbon cell chemistry, as used by Honor and OnePlus, among others. Among other things, these batteries offer a higher energy density. OnePlus uses one of these in its 6.3-inch smartphone 13T, for example, which has a massive 6260 mAh energy storage unit despite its compact design.

In addition, the battery can be charged by cable with up to 68 watts. This means that Motorola clearly outperforms the competitor models from Samsung and Apple: the Galaxy S25 Edge has a 3900 mAh battery that can be charged with up to 25 W; the iPhone Air has a 3149 mAh battery with a charging capacity of just 20 W. Thanks to its larger battery, the Moto Edge 70 could deliver better battery life than its competitors and be ready for use more quickly after charging.

Motorola has not yet revealed more than the battery data. However, further leaks indicate that the Edge 70 will probably have a 50 MP wide-angle camera with optical image stabilisation (OIS) and an ultra-wide-angle camera with a 120° angle of view. Initial retailers are also talking about 512 GB of flash memory and 12 GB of RAM. It is expected in the Pantone colours "Lily Pad", grey and "Bronze Green". Two Italian retailers are quoting prices of between 700 and 800 euros for the smartphone in the same configuration, although these could still be placeholders.

Motorola plans to announce new details on the features every Wednesday until the unveiling on 5 November. The manufacturer is thus pursuing a similar salami marketing tactic as OnePlus or Nothing. In the course of this, we may find out which processor Motorola is installing in the Edge 70 and how thin the device will be.
