Game of Thrones: First trailer for A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms released
The new Game of Thrones spin-off A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms starts in January 2026. A trailer shows the first clips.

News from Westeros: The streaming service HBO has released the first trailer for the series A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, the second prequel from the fantasy series Game of Thrones, at Comic-Con in New York. It will start at the beginning of next year.

The spin-off is set around 90 years before the original series and tells the story of Ser Duncan the Great and his young squire Egg. The brave but somewhat naive knight Duncan is played by Peter Claffey, while the squire, who is actually Prince Aegon V Targaryen, is played by Dexter Sol Ansell.
Unlike the two previous series from the universe of US author George R. R. Martin, this one is not set in the high nobility of Westeros. It tells the story of the two companions traveling through the countryside and takes the perspective of the ordinary people of Westeros.
The trailer shows Duncan burying his father and setting off on his journey through Westeros, as well as the first encounter between the two protagonists. There are also some hints at the adventures the two will have to face.
George R. R. Martin is working on the series with
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is based on Martin's novel trilogy “The Hedge Knight of Westeros: The Judgement of the Seven” (“Tales of Dunk and Egg”), which was published between 1998 and 2010. The author also worked on the series himself, as co-author and producer.
HBO commissioned production of the series in April 2023, with filming taking place from June to September 2024. The first season consists of six episodes. It starts in the USA on 18 January 2026 with the first episode, with the other episodes following at weekly intervals. It is not yet known when the series will be shown in Germany.

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is already the second Game of Thrones spin-off. The first is House of the Dragon, which is set 100 years earlier, 200 years before the events of the main series. The first season was shown in 2022, the second in 2024. Filming for the third season ends this month. A fourth season has already been confirmed.
