Powertoys 0.95.1: Hotfix Release Fixes Annoying Bugs

The Powertoys 0.95 were released only recently. Now the developers are fixing some annoyances in the tool collection.

With Powertoys 0.95.1, the developers are releasing an updated version of the open-source tool collection for Windows, in which they are fixing some of the most frequently reported issues. The new "Light Switch for Windows" will no longer be activated by default, for example.

In the release announcement explain Microsoft's developers, that this patch release "fixes several important stability issues detected in version 0.95 based on incoming reports". The new "Light Switch" feature, which complements an automatic "Light Switch for Windows" that can automatically switch between light and dark themes based on the time of day, was incorrectly enabled by default. This was irritating for dark mode users whose apps suddenly displayed with high brightness.

Furthermore, the manually set time control could be overridden by sunset calculations. Since the wording "Manual" for the times was not clear, the developers have changed it to "Fixed working hours". In addition, the programmers have added a new "Off" mode, which deactivates the automatic schedule and is therefore found as a third option for time control, but still allows the use of the keyboard shortcut. The times for light and dark mode were occasionally not updated correctly when switching between automatic and manual modes.

Further Bugs Fixed

The command palette could crash on pages that use filters, such as Windows Terminal profiles or Windows services; moreover, the developers corrected occasional display issues. The Powertoys programmers have also fixed other, sometimes annoying, bugs in "Find My Mouse", the installer, and the bug reporter.

The internal update search under "General" – "Version and Updates" automatically finds the update after clicking the "Check for Updates" button and can also install it immediately. However, as usual, the project also provides updated installation packages for download:
