Samsung's first dual-folding foldable is one step closer to its official unveiling. The company exhibited its Trifold device on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit, which is taking place in South Korea this week. There was already a teaser for the device at the beginning of the year, Samsung Mobile Chief TM Roh b$(LB4895287:confirmed|_blank)
To look at: yes; to touch: no
As reported by Korean media outlets Korean Economic Daily and Chosun, the new device category for Samsung was exhibited behind glass, similar to how the manufacturer surprisingly presented its Smart Ring Galaxy Ring at MWC 2024. This means that apparently no one was allowed to touch, let alone unfold or fold, the “Galaxy G Fold” or “Galaxy Z Trifold,” or whatever it will be called—Samsung has not yet confirmed a name.

Samsung exhibited the device in both folded and unfolded states. The manufacturer only demonstrated how the device can be folded using an animation. According to this, the hinges of Samsung's Tri-Foldable fold inwards from both sides. This fold is described as “G-shaped.” This distinguishes it from Huawei's Mate XT, which has one inward and one outward folding hinge, referred to as an “S-shaped” fold.
Smartphone and tablet in one
According to reports, the outer screen is expected to have a diagonal of about 6.5 inches, similar to the Galaxy Z Fold 7. When fully unfolded, the display is expected to grow to a tablet size of 10 inches. Due to the complex hinge structure and additional display components, the selling price is reportedly expected to be up to four million won, equivalent to around 2400 euros.
Samsung is reportedly planning to offer the dual-folding device initially in limited quantities of 50,000 to 100,000 units. The company is not aiming for a global market launch for the device, similar to the XR Headset Galaxy XR. It may only be offered in South Korea and China.
