Paradox has re-released “Surviving Mars.” The construction game about Mars colonization, released in 2018, is being re-released as “Surviving Mars: Relaunched.” With this new release, the original version will disappear from the stores, but owners will keep it in their library and can continue to play it.

It's not entirely far-fetched for fans to continue playing the old version. The remaster “Surviving Mars: Relaunched” must be repurchased. The price is 40 euros; those who already own the original version will save half of that. Nevertheless, many fans are not entirely happy with this industry-standard sales strategy, and many negative reviews have been published on Steam.

New in “Surviving Mars: Relaunched” are, among other things, revised graphics and a refreshed interface. This makes the game easier to play with a controller—an essential development, as “Surviving Mars: Relaunched” is now also available on Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.

Further innovations:

  • All previous DLCs are included. As they are now part of the “overall package,” their content will be expanded with future expansion packs.
  • Features such as political management and factions have been added. On screenshots, this is reminiscent of “Frostpunk 2”.
  • Official mod support: Players can install mods without leaving the game

For developer Haemimont Games, “Surviving Mars: Relaunched” is not a complete edition but rather the starting point for further development. A season pass is already being offered, bundling three DLCs planned for 2026. The upcoming expansion packs are expected to include new food systems and new machines that can accelerate the terraforming of the Red Planet.

“Surviving Mars” is a very successful construction strategy game in which you house Mars colonists in domes and have to supply them with food, electricity, and entertainment. In the long term, however, the goal is to terraform Mars. The spiritual successors to “Surviving Mars,” “Surviving the Aftermath,” and “Surviving the Abyss” were no longer developed by Haemimont. The Bulgarian studio instead worked on “Stranded: Alien Dawn” and “Jagged Alliance 3.”
