The popular tool collection Powertoys for Windows has been released in version 0.96. It brings mainly many small improvements and fixes, but also major innovations. The Enhanced Presenter, for example, can use other AIs.
The Powertoys developers in the release notes discuss the new version. Enhanced Presenter allows automatic conversion of clipboard content, for example into plain text, Markdown, JSON, or other formats. It also includes the option to integrate AI models for tasks like summarizing or translating texts. Various other providers besides Microsoft's offerings can now be integrated: Azure OpenAI, OpenAI, Google Gemini, Mistral, Foundry Local, and Ollama are available – both local and online AI services.
The programmers have also worked on the Command Palette and implemented "far-reaching improvements." The file search filters are said to benefit from this, as are the metadata of the clipboard history, the appearance of the context menu, and "dozens of bug fixes and enhancements." Furthermore, the Powertoys developers highlight that PowerRename can now read and use metadata from images such as EXIF or XMP to use them in renaming patterns. They cite %Camera, %Lens, or %ExposureTime as examples.
