Over 30 years after the film that gave it its name and seven years after the last of a total of four series of varying lengths, Amazon is having a new Stargate series produced. The streaming service of the US internet giant announced this now. Several people who have already worked on previous series will be responsible. Further details, such as the name, the planned release date, and the content of the new series, are not yet available. However, those responsible have already promised To the fan site GateWorld that the new series should serve as an entry point into the Stargate universe. To understand it, one does not need to know the existing more than 350 episodes.
A new entry into the Stargate universe
The 1994 film Stargate and later series such as "Stargate – SG-1" are about alien technology that allows travel to other planets without time delay. This works via the titular Stargates. With "Stargate Atlantis" and "Stargate Universe," there were two more series, the last of which ended in 2011. After that, there was a ten-part web series called "Stargate Origins." The last productions are therefore all quite some time ago. Nevertheless, Stargate is likely to remain one of the most popular science fiction brands, and Amazon wants to profit from this. The new series is to be produced by MGM Studios, which continues to own the rights to the franchise.

In the announcement video of the new series, the people responsible for two fan projects on the internet were now involved, so GateWorld also has a few more details about it. For example, the responsible producer assured that it is not intended to be a reboot. It is an entirely new chapter, an independent chapter in the Stargate universe. The series that fans have been waiting for for so long is planned. In terms of visual effects, things can now be implemented that were simply not possible at the time of the very first television series. At the same time, the series is intended to promote the franchise, so that new fans are encouraged to watch the existing content as well.
