Leica Camera AG is expanding its popular Q series with a model for purists: the Q3 Monochrom. This compact camera is equipped with a specially developed 60-megapixel full-frame sensor that exclusively records black-and-white images, deliberately omitting the capture of color information.

By dispensing with a color filter array, the sensor captures pure brightness values. According to Leica, this design leads to visibly higher detail rendering, increased sharpness, and an extended dynamic range. Thanks to Triple Resolution Technology, photographers can flexibly choose between resolutions of 60, 36, or 18 megapixels. The native ISO range extends from ISO 100 to ISO 200,000.

The camera also proves to be powerful in video recording: it captures moving images in resolutions up to 8K. Codecs such as H.265 for 8K recordings and H.264 for 4K material are used.

The Q3 Monochrom is equipped with the proven Summilux 1:1.7/28mm ASPH., a fast wide-angle lens with optical image stabilization. An integrated macro mode allows for shots from a minimum focusing distance of just 17 centimeters. The digital zoom expands creative possibilities by simulating image crops corresponding to focal lengths of 35, 50, 75, and 90 millimeters. Continuous shooting is possible at up to 15 frames per second.

Leica opts for a discreet appearance with the Q3 Monochrom, foregoing the distinctive red dot.

The Monochrom version shares the body and core features with its sister model, the Leica Q3. These include the high-resolution OLED viewfinder with 5.76 million pixels, the tiltable 3-inch touchscreen, and the fast hybrid autofocus system (combination of phase and contrast detection with 315 focus points). The body, certified according to IP52 standard, offers protection against dust and splashes.

For connectivity, it features Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, a USB-C port, and a micro-HDMI interface. Image transfer to mobile devices is conveniently handled via the Leica Fotos app. As a novelty in the Q series, the camera integrates "Content Credentials" technology. This attaches a digital signature to recordings according to the standard of the Content Authenticity Initiative (CAI) to make the authenticity and editing history of an image transparently traceable. An internal buffer memory with a capacity of eight GB provides ample space for continuous shooting.

The design underscores the puristic character of the concept. The full-metal body, as well as the included lens hood, are painted matte black. The engravings are subtly rendered in black and gray. For a particularly discreet appearance, Leica has omitted the iconic red dot on the front. New, grippy leathering is intended to provide a high-quality tactile experience.

Accessories include a grip that enables wireless charging, as well as classic color filters (yellow, green, orange, and red) for contrast control. According to the manufacturer, the Leica Q3 Monochrom will be available in stores from November 20, 2025, for €6,750 (RRP).
