Disney+ and Ubisoft are working on a "Far Cry" series for the streaming service. The series will be produced by FX, the companies announced late Tuesday. Actor Rob McElhenney will not only produce the series but also play a role. There is no release date yet.
The plan is for the "Far Cry" series to have a new setting and new characters in each season, just like the games do. It will be the first "Far Cry" series with live actors; Netflix already has an animated series called "Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix" based on "Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon". Additionally, there is a trash film from 2008 under the name "Far Cry" by Uwe Boll and Til Schweiger.
Ubisoft's Film and Series Experiments
Ubisoft will be involved in the production through its Vantage Studios. This is a recently founded subsidiary of the French publisher, representing the company's most important game franchises. These include "Assassin's Creed" and "Rainbow Six", as well as "Far Cry".

The spin-off of its most important evergreen franchises is part of a restructuring that is accompanied by fresh investments from Tencent. The Chinese tech giant Tencent is investing 1.16 billion euros in the new business unit, which is said to represent a stake of over 25 percent of the valuation of 4 billion euros.
Ubisoft has been experimenting with feature films and series for a long time: in 2016, an "Assassin's Creed" film starring Michael Fassbender was released in cinemas – several years before other studios came up with the idea of strengthening their brand presence with higher-quality productions. In addition to the "Far Cry" series, Ubisoft still has other irons in the fire: an "Assassin's Creed" series has been in production for Netflix for years. Recently, the US streaming service also released an animated series for "Splinter Cell".
