Amazon Leo: Amazon's Satellite Internet Service Launches
Amazon is launching its satellite internet service Leo with selected corporate customers. The commercial launch is expected in a few months.

The internet giant Amazon has announced the launch of its satellite internet service Leo. Initially, some test users will gain access. A "broader commercial launch" is planned by Amazon for the coming year.
Amazon is initially making the service available to selected companies that rely on reliable connectivity. These include companies from the energy sector, manufacturing, media, and transport, Amazon announced.

Amazon Leo, until recently still Project Kuiper, is Amazon's satellite internet offering, comparable to SpaceX's Starlink. The constellation currently consists of just over 150 satellites. By 2028, Amazon plans to expand it to over 3000 satellites. Leo is then expected to be available in 88 to 100 countries.

To use the service, an antenna called Amazon Leo Ultra is required, the serial design of which Amazon has now presented. The full-duplex phased array antenna offers maximum transmission speeds of one gigabit per second for download and 400 Mbit/s for upload.

Initially, the service is to be available in five countries: Germany, France, Great Britain, Canada, and the USA. Amazon intends to continuously expand the service. By the end of 2026, it is expected to be receivable in approximately 20 more countries.
